Waltio, a French platform specializing in cryptocurrency tax services, has confirmed it is under attack by ShinyHunters, a cybercriminal group renowned for executing ransomware attacks and data breaches. The hackers claim to have compromised the personal data of around 50,000 users and are demanding payment to prevent the release of sensitive information, including upcoming 2024 tax reports. Despite the threat, Waltio assures users that its services and production systems remain secure, with no cryptocurrency or banking credentials affected. A complaint has been lodged with France’s cybercrime unit as attempts to mitigate the situation continue. This incident underscores the escalating confrontations between cybercriminals and crypto-service providers worldwide. Previously, ShinyHunters has been implicated in demanding a ransom of six bitcoins from AT&T and has been associated with threats against Ticketmaster and various important Indian cryptocurrency exchanges.
